If you haven’t heard the exciting news yet, it’s engagement season! Last month we got you started with some tips on the registry, and now, we just want to remember all those fun things that make any engagement so amazing!

  • Unique proposals: “How did he pop the question?!” You’ll be sure to hear this question a hundred times, and you’ll love to share your story.  Some proposals are so creative and unique, and the really are a great start to this new chapter.  This Disney proposal is totally magical!
  • The Ring: You’re gonna love showing off the ring! If you lean to the non-traditional side, you should definitely think about doing something a little different. Instead of the standard rings, check out Etsy and Emmaline Bride where all the best handmade items are featured.

There’s so much more to the engagement than just the proposal, ring, and shower.  It really is a magical time – what’s your favorite part?

Last week we shared some gift ideas that work double time – great for the receiver, and great for the environment! We’ve got some more ideas for you, but this time, the gifts give back to the underprivileged.  Take a look!

For each book you purchase from Better World Books, they’ll give a book to someone in need. Even better, part of each sale goes towards organizations that support literacy.

You’ve probably given this gift before, and if you’re a man, you’ve probably received it – a tie!  The next time you give a tie, give from FIGS Ties.  For every tie you purchase, they’ll donate a school uniform to an underprivileged child.

Glasses a great gift – and if you purchase yours from Warby Parker, you’ll also be giving a pair to someone in need.

Chances are you’ve already heard about TOMS Shoes.  Their One-for-One Movement gives a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair you buy.

FEED Projects has got a lot of great gift options – bags, bears, t-shirts, and other accessories.  But the best part is that built into the price of each, is a donation to provide meals to those who can’t afford them.

If you’re short on ideas for holiday gift-giving, these are some great options!  Friends and family will be thrilled to know that their gifts are helping someone in need.

Short on holiday gift ideas? Give a gift that keeps on giving – eco-friendly gifts!  Great for friends, family, and the environment.

WeWood

Go stylish, practical and green with a wooden watch.  These beautiful pieces are made with 100% natural wood, look great on men and women alike, and they even plant a tree for every watch you purchase!

Red Envelope Herb Garden

For the chef, give the gift that lets them be as sustainable and local as possible – by growing their own herbs.  They’ll love the freshness of something grown right at home and that they can contribute to sustainability!

Toys for Kids

We’re always so impressed by how much Etsy has to offer.  Etsy sellers have got hundreds of eco-friendly gifts for kids, like this wooden plane made only from natural materials.  See how creative those sellers get right here.

Custom Tree Slices

From another Etsy seller, this gift is inspired by the primitive art of tree carving.  No chemicals or synthetic materials are involved.  Perfect for your outdoorsy friend.

The holiday season is all about giving – now you can give back to the environment, too!

We all know the obvious uses of a cash gift registry – weddings, babies, and birthdays come to mind.  But there are so many uses that often go forgotten.  One of the best is as a collection pot for a group gift, and with the holidays coming up, why not start collecting for someone who really deserves it – your child’s teacher! So why exactly should you think about a cash registry for the teacher?

  1. It’s hassle-free: Gathering funds to get someone a gift can be a chore – someone’s left with the pain of getting everybody on board, collecting funds, and deciding on a gift.  But this shouldn’t be a reason to forego a gift for someone who deserves it.  With a Deposit a Gift registry setup is simple, you can show people exactly what they’ll be contributing towards and distribute the link to parents with a simple email.
  2. Exactly what the teacher asked for: Don’t risk getting the teacher something she doesn’t want – let her decide!  After all, she probably doesn’t need another pen, but she could definitely use a little extra cash.
  3. The A+ teacher deserves it! The teacher puts in a lot of hard work, corralling all those kids and preparing them for the future.  They definitely don’t get as big a reward as they should.  And the typical holiday gifts – mugs, pens, or small gift cards – just don’t quite capture their importance.  A gift from the whole class is the perfect way to let her know how much she means.

The holidays are coming up fast. Sure you’re prepared for family and friends, but don’t forget to say thank you to someone with a special place in your child’s life!
