It’s like not going to the gym for a month. When you haven’t blogged for a while, it is tough to get back in the groove. Like any good gym-dodger we do have a good excuse, we promise…we’ve been growing like crazy! We’re thrilled to report that halfway through our first year, Deposit a Gift is thriving because our mission to help people keep things simple and focus on what matters most seems to be resonating.

We think it is because there is an undeniable cultural shift towards people becoming more practical about their needs, as well as wanting to be more environmentally friendly and less wasteful when it comes to the gifting aspect of life’s biggest celebrations.

Let’s face it, the way we live has changed and it is driving a different set of needs: we’re more mobile, getting married and having kids later, are more eco-conscious, placing a higher value on experiences over things and simply thinking longer term. We are happy that our service is flexible enough to support varied lifestyles, offering a real solution that bridges the gap between gift registries (which, let’s be honest, are expected) and asking for money (to be used towards a goal or dream), while still offering a gratifying gifting experience, which is key for gift-givers.

Take weddings for example…Many gift-givers think about the wedding gift as something that is supposed to help the couple start off on the right foot for this next phase of life. This used to translate to “everything necessary to set-up a household,” but the reality is that many of today’s couples don’t need that, so the profile of the perfect wedding gift is changing. The challenge is how to register for that perfect wedding gift so that guests feel good about their gift, and couples get something they will actually use. This is where Deposit a Gift comes in – we allow the registrant to create a list of special gift items that is fun for guests to shop from and allows them to be part of the experience in a way that simply buying a set of towels cannot.

Already, in the short time that we have been live, it has been fun to watch our users innovate with the tools we built from the ground up. Beyond the expected wedding and baby registries, we’ve had people use us for birthdays, charities and even fundraising! What it validates is that the Deposit a Gift service really is as fun, flexible and hassle-free as we planned for it to be – the only limit truly is your imagination! We’re excited to see what the rest of 2010 brings and appreciate your continued support in spreading the word.
