I’m a big fan of a paperless wedding invites website called Glo, and I’m an even bigger fan of the site’s owner, Taryn. The neat thing is that last year Taryn and I met ‘virtually’ through the online wedding world and over a series of months and Skype coffee dates, I’m proud to call her a colleague and friend. Recently we were having one of our Skype chats and we ended up having this conversation around all the judgment of what’s considered ‘tacky’ and what’s not, when it comes to weddings. Couples are often already in such a vulnerable emotional state internally, questioning all of their own wedding planning decisions (hopefully they’re not questioning the marriage!), that when you heap on top of that all the judgment from the outside world, it can be a lot to deal with.
Why do you think so many brides are so mean to each other during this time? Although not every message board is complicit, there are a couple where the girls really seem to get off on attacking each other’s thoughts and choices. While, yes, there are a few tried and true etiquette rules that you can confirm with Emily Post herself, most things are merely custom….Tacky to one is normal for another.
Which is why I was so darn excited to see this recent post that Taryn had the courage to write the other day, pondering why people are so amazingly judgmental when it comes to weddings.
What has your experience been? Love to know what you think!
