We have been together for over 10 years, and lived together for over 9 years. By the time we finally settled down after graduate school careers and moved halfway across the country and bought our first house together, we didn't need the standard gift registry items such as sheets, dishes, etc. We had spent over 9 years making a home together with the standard items - what we really needed were bigger-ticket items to renovate our new house and do some updating - things like a dishwasher, lumber, and landscaping items. Also, since we chose to have the wedding in our new hometown, the majority of our guests were coming from afar, and it would have been cumbersome for them to carry along gifts in addition to their luggage. After searching and comparing other similar sites out there, we settled on Deposit a Gift for our registry. It looked nice, and was super easy to use both on our end and on our guests' end. We LOVED the option to break up big-ticket items into smaller pieces that different wedding guests could purchase. Our families and friends loved it because they could see that 3/4 of one item was purchased by others, and decide to purchase the remaining 1/4 and something else if they wanted...they never had to get in touch with the fellow purchasers of the big-ticket items. Our guests kept telling us the best part was that they didn't have to carry anything across the country with them. We loved the gift tracker and notifications so we could stay organized; Deposit a Gift keeps track of everything for you, even after you've cashed-out your gifts. We HIGHLY recommend Deposit a Gift!!! And we are sure to use it again in the future...in fact we're still using it as some of our wedding guests are following the year-after-the-wedding rule. We are sure to use Deposit a Gift again for events in our future - the concept of this type of registry is fitting for the techno-modern and non-traditional direction many people are taking today with weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, and other life events.
