Tip 10: How To Choose Incentives and Rewards

Posted on

Anyone who has ever run a crowdfunding campaign knows that the key to success is all in the prep. That’s why we created our How To Prepare to Launch a Crowdfunding Campaign YouTube series. In our final post from this series, we are looking into how to choose incentives and rewards for your campaign.

Tip 10- How To Choose Incentives And Rewards

Video Highlights:

  • Donation-based crowdfunding campaigns don’t necessarily need rewards to make their campaign go, but could sometimes benefit from the extra incentives rewards give.
  • Evaluate if you want to use rewards by thinking about goals and objectives of campaign.
  • Do not use rewards if they will derail the momentum of your campaign or bankrupt you.
  • Rewards can be physical things that you’ll deliver to their recipients or they can be virtual prizes like an invite to a launch party, a tour of a facility, or a lunch date with a special person.
  • A good way to gauge if you should use rewards and to simultaneously spread the word about the campaign is to crowdsource rewards ideas. This entails posting on social media or sending out emails to the people in your network about reward options, and having them vote on which rewards they prefer.

Tip 9: How To Prepare an Appreciation Strategy

Posted on

Anyone who has ever run a crowdfunding campaign knows that the key to success is all in the prep. That’s why we created our How To Prepare to Launch a Crowdfunding Campaign YouTube series. This week, we are explaining why and how to prepare an appreciation strategy for your campaign.

Tip 9 - How To Prepare An Appreciation Strategy

Video Highlights:

  • An appreciation strategy is necessary both to curb buyer’s remorse for your donors and to help people help you keep up the momentum on the campaign.
  • An appreciation strategy has to be planned in advance of your campaign because it’s easier to organize a complete appreciation strategy before you are inundated with contributions.
  • It’s important to prepare a personal thank you email to send to everyone who contributes within 24-48 hours of donating.
  • It’s also important to outline a follow up schedule and email scripts to give donors updates on how the campaign is going and to remind them to share the campaign.
  • A good appreciation strategy is to thank people publicly on social media because it advertises your campaign and applies subtle social pressure for other people to contribute.
  • For organizations that are used to thanking supporters only at the end of a campaign, you need to reach out to supporters during the campaign to keep up momentum.
  • Appreciation strategies should also include a schedule to send out weekly mass emails giving campaign updates and publicly thanking donors.

Anyone who has ever run a crowdfunding campaign knows that the key to success is all in the prep. That’s why we created our How To Prepare to Launch a Crowdfunding Campaign YouTube series. This week, we discuss what materials you need to have in your marketing toolkit.

Tip 8- How To Create A Marketing Toolkit

Video Highlights:

  • Your marketing toolkit consists of marketing materials that you need to create in advance of starting your campaign so that you don’t just fly by the seat of your pants.
  • The key components of this toolkit include: pre-written follow up and thank you scripts for donors, blurbs you can give to key advocates to share on social media, a pre-written press release, and a roadmap outlining how you want your campaign to progress and a weekly schedule.
  • While a marketing tool kit gives your campaign structure, it also allows you to be nimble during the campaign process because you’re giving yourself time to create things on the fly when necessary.

Video Highlights:

  • During the preparatory period of your campaign, you need to think through what in particular you want from each team member, so that you can manage each team member’s expectations.
  • For key advocates you are counting on to be big contributors, explain to them when during the campaign you would like them to donate.
  • For key advocates with large social media presences who you’re counting on to share your campaign, explain to them at what times they will need to share and how to share.
  • It’s critical to maintain consistent communication throughout your campaign, but not all of these communications should come from you. Adding different voices to your cause adds value to your marketing.
